Rockdale’s Juneteenth Homecoming celebration will be held on Saturday, June 17, and the whole city is invited according to organizer, Henry Miller.
The parade will start at the old McVoy’s store at 10 a.m. and go down East Milam Avenue turning right on Plum Street and down MLK Boulevard to Sumuel Park.
“We ask that each church prepare a float, and other parade entrants should bring anything that moves including cars, bikes, wagons, golf carts, horses and motorcycles,” Miller added.
This year’s Grand Marshals will be Donald and Carolyn Cooper.
A delicious barbecue lunch with all the classic sides and desserts will be held at the end of the parade prepared by Ellis, Kirk and Stanley Douglas; Elmo Miller and son, Daryl Moore; Billie and Bobby Tindle; Calvin Jefferson; Kenneth Hardway; Ezzard Everage; Yousef Walton; Donald and Freddy Cooper; J.D. Miller; Kefa Mitchell; Terry Lynn Williams; Shannon Moore; Charlie Moore; Charlie Miller; Evette Wiley; Brenda Harris; Gloria Miller; Evelyn Burgess; Tennie Tindle; and Lynn Miller.
Music will be provided by Lynda Ford. Miller also said if attendees have meat to bring, the cookers will be happy to cook it for you.
