Nine new cases of COVID-19 found

There are nine new Milam County hospitalizations to report today.

"In addition, our hospitalization rate is currently 15.38%. The hospitalization rate must be 15% or lower for 7 consecutive days before occupancy rates increase and bars can open. We have reported 2,069 confirmed infections in Milam County since the pandemic started and our active cases today are at 104, which is 29 more than yesterday," County Judge Steve Young said in an email.

"This COVID-19 virus has truly changed our lives. We worry about getting infected and what will happen if we really get sick. Who will pay the bills? Who will take care of the family? What happens if the infection causes death? Then what? We worry about sending the kids to school; and we worry about keeping them out of school. The teachers, administrators and coaches worry about getting sick. The economy has suffered and we now hope for another mass infusion from the Federal Government to keep moving. Why? The COVID-19 virus," he said. "We must come together, we must work together to beat this menace. Most, do what is necessary to win this battle. Most wear masks, keep their distance, avoid large crowds and most are trying to get vaccinated. To those, we say thank you. For those who say otherwise, we say think about the harm that inaction has and will continue to cause. Just like forest fires, only you can slow the spread of the virus."

In the battle to end this menace, Milam County will run two second round vaccination clinics this week. The first will be conducted in Cameron on Wednesday and the other in Rockdale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. These are done by appointment only for the convenience and safety of those getting shots and those giving the shots.

Those who are called for one of the vaccination clinic, please download the two page consent form, complete it and bring it with you to the vaccination clinic. This will save a lot of time. The form can be downloaded at: http://www.milamcounty.net/upload/page/9873/2nd%20Shot%20Forms.pdf

In Rockdale on Monday, 58 individuals were tested with 16 positive results. So far, 2,963 individuals have been tested with 867 positive infections which is a 29% positivity rate. Today's testing is in Thorndale at the Thorndale VFW from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are a Milam County resident with COVID symptoms, get a test.
