MVFD holds fundraiser for Whitmore
The Milano Volunteer Fire Department will hold a benefit for Second Assistant Chief Robert Whitmore on Sunday, Nov, 7 at 11:30 a.m.
All proceeds will go towards his medical expenses and treatments.

AA meeting weekly at Crossroads Church
Rockdale Peace Seekers AA meetings are at Crossroads Bible Church, 811 Burleson St.
The meetings are scheduled on Tuesdays and Sundays at 7:30 p.m.
Voice of Democracy student essays
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy competition has begun and this year’s theme is “How can I become a good American?”
The competition is open to all junior high and high school students as well as private school and homeschooled students. The essays are both written and recorded as a three to five minute video. Entry deadline is Oct. 31.

Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) are celebrating their centennial, the 100th anniversary of the first Girl Scout troop formed in our area in 1921.
“As part of our centennial celebration, Milam County Girl Scouts have chosen to perform service in Milam County. We are looking to do 100 acts of service in our county. We are providing services for free. It can be for a church, organization, city, individual or group,” said Rachel Owens, Milam County Girl Scouts Service Unit Director.

Landscaping classes scheduled for Oct. 29
Earthkind Landscaping class sponsored by the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District will held at from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the POSGCD office in Milano.

Minerva VFD holds annual pancake dinner
The Minerva Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Pancake Supper and Silent Auction fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 20.
Admission tickets are $10 and are available from any Minerva volunteer or Fire Chief Ernie Glenn at 512-365-0075.
Prize drawing tickets are $10 and the prizes are five Mastercard gift certificates from $100 to $500.
Class of ’77 to hold homecoming gathering
The Class of 1977 is holding a homecoming get-together on Oct. 29.
The class will meet before the football game on Friday night at Rainbow Courts and then return after the game. There will be reserved seating in the stands Friday night.
