At the last RISD School Board meeting, students in RJH band, RHS band, RJH tennis, RJH track, RHS golf, RHS tennis, RHS track, Skills USA state qualifiers and FFA state and area qualifiers were recognized.
Teachers Lisa Debault, Leslie Flores, and Adam Toepfer were recognized as CTE teachers that have students earning new to Rockdale ISD Industry-based Certifications, including certified nursing assistant (CNA), Adobe PhotoShop certifications and CompTIA certifications.
Lance Melton, with Corgan architecture firm, discussed the process of approving the selection of bond projects construction delivery method according to state statute. The board selected and approved the Construction Manager at Risk method.
Cody Dudley, RISD Maintenance director, briefed the board on summer maintenance projects in the district including cleaning schedules, gym floor repairs, playground mulch, restroom stall repairs, parking lot striping, RHS gym roof repair and RIS roof repair.
Brent Hasselbach, high school principal, reported on events at the high school including College, Career and Military Senior Signing Day, band spring concert, scholarship and awards ceremony, athletic banquet, and the Senior Sunrise. High school students took 13 tests over three weeks.
Susan Pantaleon, junior high principal, reported on Art and Science family night, campus book fair, end of year field trip to a water park as a behavior incentive, Staff vs Student basketball game, awards presentations and 8th grade promotion on Thursday, May 25 at 10 a.m.
Cheyenne Miller, intermediate principal, reported on the Accelerated Reading (AR) Award Summer Fun trip, award ceremonies, field day, Student Council field trip, and the campus-wide Luau themed picnic for students and parents during the last week of school.
Shannon Pourmanafzedeh, elementary principal, reported on recent activities including teacher appreciation and field day. Upcoming events include end of year awards and water day.
Hunter Hamrick, athletic director, reported on the parent meeting last week that included recruiting information and assistance with Rank One for student paperwork, athletic physicals, summer sports camps, summer strength and conditioning for incoming 7th-12th graders, and the athletic banquet. Two-a-days will begin July 31st for football, volleyball and cross country.
The board approved and adopted the order canvassing returns and declaring results of the May 6, 2023 Rockdale ISD Bond Election. The official results of the Bond Election as provided to the District by 1 the Milam County Clerk’s Office are as follows: 707 Total Votes Cast, 411 Votes For, 296 Votes Against, 10 Absentee Voting, 548 Early Voting, 149 Election Day Voting, 707 Total Votes.
Julia Cardona, Place 7 of the RISD Board of Trustees, was administered the Oath of Office.
The board elected the following officers for the board of trustees: Troy Zinn, President; Julia Cardona, Vice-President; Amy Casas, Secretary.
Deidra Hall, CFO, made recommendations for several financial proposals including athletic supplies and equipment, food service purchases, bank depository services, and property casualty insurance renewal.
The board members were informed of several certified and non-certified personnel hires as well as certified and non-certified resignations.
The board approved the Superintendent’s recommendation of Yesenia Rodriguez as Assistant Principal at Rockdale Junior High for the 2023-2024 school year.
