In response to the horrific events related to the active shooter in Uvalde on May 24, the law enforcement community, school districts and citizens have an urgent need to develop immediate solutions to better safeguard Milam County schools and children.

“The Milam County Sheriff’s Office, along with our partner agencies, are taking the initiative over the next three months to facilitate training opportunities for first responders responding to critical incidents in our schools,” according to County Sheriff Mike Clore

“This operation will focus on allowing first responders the opportunity to respond to scenario-based situations involving critical incidents in a safe and controlled environment. This training supports the School Safety Initiative’s goals to enhance response capabilities, enhance safety procedures for staff and participants and enhance collaboration and safety operations in schools,” Clore continued.

After drills, responding officers and participating administrators have a chance to communicate on what went wrong during the run-through in order to perfect their response in an active shooter situation.

During this training, June 28 to 30, there will be an increased law enforcement presence at RHS.

Rockdale High School is the first Milam County school to experience this training. Additional training locations at other school districts will be announced as they are scheduled.
