Time for the over 50 age group to sign up for vaccinations

Last week Milam County administered a whopping 897 doses of the vaccine, Milam County Judge Steve Young said in his daily email.

"This was done over the course of two days and the most we have done in a 48 hour period to date. Our waiting list is now under 1,200 and if you want a shot, this is a great time to get on the list," he said noting that those over 50 are now eligible to sign up for the vaccination.

"This week we will administer over 1,000 doses of the vaccine on Thursday and Friday at the former Rockdale Medical Clinic, located at 1700 Brazos. On Thursday, we will administer about 500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and on Friday we will administer over 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine. We will do both first and second round Moderna shots on Friday," he said.

On March 23, the military forces coming in to assist with shots.

"We will administer 300 doses at the former Rockdale Medical Clinic. The military personnel will actually give the shots, but we will do most of the rest. This will help get the wait list almost caught up. Those entitled to get on the list are those over 65, those under 65 with an underlying medical condition, those between the ages of 50-64, educators and those in child care," he said.

Everyone that is to be vaccinated will be called and told of their appointment time. Please come at your scheduled time and wear a short sleeve shirt, for ease of vaccination.

Download the consent forms, complete it and bring it to the clinic. This will save about 20 minutes. If you bring a completed form to the clinic there is no need to arrive ahead of your scheduled time as the county hopes to get you in short order.

THANKS: We thank all of those so heavily involved in this most important project. For example, our Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Burns who was instrumental in getting the Pfizer vaccine and Bell County Judge Dave Blackburn and his medical staff for providing these drugs. Our great Milam County Health Department and all of the many, many volunteers who are putting their health at risk to protect ours. We simply cannot thank them enough.

If you are in group 1A, IB, IC or you are a teacher, administrator or child care worker, call 254 697 7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net and get on the list. When your turn comes, the county will call and schedule your appointment.
