Train cars burst into flames after hit by 18-wheeler

An 18-wheeler ran into a BNSF freight train with several cars bursting into flame around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release from BNSF Railway. The train carrying mixed freight had 13 of its 110 cars derail upon impact south of Cameron at the CR 229 railroad crossing. Five of the impacted cars were carrying gasoline and five cars carrying non-hazardous loads later caught on on fire.  Additionally, there are reports that an adjacent barn and recreational vehicle have sustained fire damage. There were no injuries to the crew or truck driver.

 The crossing is equipped with gates and lights. Local first responders and BNSF personnel are onsite to respond to the incident. Local authorities have established a half-mile radius evacuation zone near the site. BNSF has established a claims hotline for any impacted residents. The hotline number is 1-866-243-4784. An investigation into the incident is under way.
