Two more people die of effects of COVID-19

Two more people in Milam County have died because of COVID-19.

"It saddens me to report that two more Milam County residents have died because of COVID. Two more of our residents have needlessly died because of this terrible virus," County Judge Steve Young said.

The death toll in the county is now 20 since the pandemic began.

"This is another grim reminder that we all must do our part by protecting each other. Wear a mask, keep your distance, wash your hands and get vaccinated," he said in an email.

Wednesday 37 individuals were tested in Milano with 12 positive results. Overall, 2,650 individuals have been tested with 767 positive infections which is a 29% positivity rate. Today's testing is in Cameron at the Cameron VFD from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Milam County resident with COVID symptoms, can get tested for free.

Since the compiling of statistics have been turned over to the state there are quite a few people who did not answer the state’s tracing call and thus, we have cases, but not yet confirmed, which is called an “open case.”

Some good news: The hospitalization rate has come down from about 24% to 18.5% in the last few days. If the rate gets below 15% for seven consecutive days, the business occupancy rate will go back up to 75% and the bars can reopen.  "We will watch this carefully and keep you posted." Young said.

Currently there are 101 active and open cases of COVID-19 infections in Milam County. No one was hospitalized Wednesday.
