Dear editor, The American Legion Carlyle Post 358 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525, with much help from Rockdale High School students, erected an American Flag Memorial on US 79 between Alpha Chevrolet and Rockdale Memorial Co.
This is the first year at this location. I want to thank the Lucky family for allowing us the use of their property. Also, Donna Diver VFW Post 6525 Ladies Auxiliary President for her help in organizing this event.
This memorial honors the men from Milam County who lost their life in defense of freedom for our nation on the battle fields of the world. There are families in and around the county who remember their sons, brothers, and perhaps husbands and fathers who never came home after going to battle.
As time passes, it becomes easy to forget their sacrifice. This is why we build this memorial each year to remember the 253 men who paid the ultimate price. God bless their families.
As we pass by this Memorial: Let us not forget.
