Dear editor, My husband and I had Harris-Walz banners and signs hanging around our front gate for several weeks prior to the election. During that time, I occasionally saw social media posts about political signs being stolen from yards in other places. Every time, I felt proud that in Milam County, we do not stoop so low. Our Harris-Walz banners and signs peacefully coexisted with the Trump flags in our neighbor’s pastures. In Milam County, I said to myself, we respect our neighbors’ rights to publicly speak their mind, and we respect our neighbors’ private property.
That changed when, after the election, someone tore down all five of our signs and banners. Turns out Milam County isn’t that different than those other places.
So, to the courageous commandos who, under the dark of night, ripped down the signs and banners hanging on our property, I want to say: Message received! You da man! No one can question the patriotism of Americans who destroy speech they disagree with. Not to mention the real courage you displayed in vandalizing private property when no one’s looking. I know your mother must be so proud of you! And you should be proud of yourself, too, for setting such a fine example for your children, nieces, and nephews!
Finally, thank you for showing me that the way, the truth, and the life is actually not living by the words of Jesus as I was taught as a child, but rather destruction, violence and disrespect. You are my hero!
