SAN MARCOS—Edward Russell Caffey passed away on Sept. 18, 2026, at the age of 74. Bo r n o n Jan. 28, 1952, in Houston, he spent his childhood in Thorndale. After graduating from high school, he moved to San Marcos where he met his beloved wife, and they spent the next 50 years together.
Edward was called home after a lengthy battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. He lived a life marked by devotion to family, hard work, generosity and faith.
Edward was a man whose life reflected the values he held dear. His working years began with the family business, Caffey Construction, where he and his dad built many homes and commercial buildings in and around San Marcos. Later, he continued that work through C&G Development alongside his long-time business partner and dear friend Danny Gribbon.
Through the years, Edward was humbly generous to those in need and earned the respect of those who worked with him because he was honest, hardworking, and dedicated to seeing a job done well. His career was not merely a livelihood but a reflection of the character he carried into every part of his life.
Edward was a devoted husband to Debbie and a loving father to Christie Gamble and her husband, Jeff, Diane Caffey, and Courtney Burgoon.
He was also a proud grandfather to Justin, Luke, Jack, Jackson and Kennedy.
His family was one of his greatest blessings, and he treasured each of them deeply.
He is also survived by his sister and brother-inlaw, Debbie and Raymond Leschber, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will remember his kindness and the love he showed to his extended family.
As his girls grew up, many of Edward’s evenings and weekends were spent at the softball field or Special Olympics competitions, where he tirelessly supported his daughters with enthusiasm and pride.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he especially loved spending time with his extended family at his mom and dad’s house during holidays and special occasions. These gatherings were precious to him, and they created long lasting memories.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles “Buck” Cleo Caffey; his mother, Alta Raye Caffey; his brother, Charles Ray Caffey and wife Neva; his sister, Linda Biar and husband Jerry; and his nephew, Bobby Lillard. Though their earthly journeys ended before his, he is now reunited with them in the presence of the Lord. His loved ones take comfort in the promise of eternal life and in the hope that comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
Edward Russell Caffey leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His life was a testimony to the importance of hard work, steadfast love, and a life grounded in deeply held values.
Those who knew him are grateful for the years they shared with him and for the example he set. May he rest in peace, and may the Lord bring comfort and strength to all who mourn his loss.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at First Baptist Church in San Marcos. He will be laid to rest at San Marcos City Cemetery.
