Getting ready for the playoffs, Thorndale had a unique predicament. While the other three playoff

While the other three playoff teams from District 12-2A-I spent the past week preparing for their season finales, the Bulldogs had a chance to rest while turning their attention towards their opening round opponent, Alto.

“We weren’t a thousand percent sure, but we were pretty sure we’d play Alto,” Coach John Kovar said. “We worked on some things we’d been lacking and focused on focused on ourselves for a couple of days, but we were able to game plan this weekend like normal...but with a little bit of an advantage because we had seen some stuff for a while.”

The Yellowjackets, who finished second in District 11-2A-I, are led by running back Rashawn Mumphrey, receiver Logan Rogers and ended district play with just one loss to Centerville, the one common opponent the two schools share. THS fell to the Tigers

THS fell to the Tigers 42-28 on Sept. 10 while Alto lost to CHS nearly a month later 38-16.

“Alto is a good football school with good players and they play incredibly hard from what we’ve seen on film and what we’ve heard,” he said. “They run the ball right at you and they’re defensively really sound. Just a good football team for the first round.” The second-year head

The second-year head coach also said there’s a little worry they might be “rusty” from the week off, but that his team has countered that by practic-ing faster than they usually practice.

“We’re going to have play to harder than them,” Kovar said. “We have to be the team that plays with the most energy and most effort on every play.” “We’ll have to tackle well, slow down the run and move the ball against their front. If we do those things, we should be fine,” he said.

The Bulldogs take on the Yellowjackets Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Mexia.
