Milano Lady Eagles

On Friday the second-place Milano Lady Eagles took on the Granger Lions on the Lions home court and it was a fight.

The Lady Eagles had a 31-14 halftime lead but Granger had a high-pressure strategy that made it hard to maintain momentum in the second half.

Early in the third quarter Milano lost a key player to injury. Leading scorer, senior Peyton Robertson left the game and that hurt the Lady Eagles game plan. Milano did win this tough matchup with a final score of 48-36.

Earlier in the week Milano played Thorndale at home and won 37-24.

COMING UP— This week the Lady Eagles were to travel to Granger on Tuesday and then host Bartlett on Friday. Tipoff will be at 4:30 pm.

District play is coming to a close very soon for Milano. Their last district game will be at Thrall on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

The Lady Eagles are now 16-10 overall and 7-1 in district play.

There is no timeline on injured Peyton Robertson’s return to the lineup.

Thorndale Bulldogs

The Thorndale Bulldogs had a decisive victory over neighboring Milano who is having a very tough, one-win season. The game was played in Milano and had a final score of 54-22.

Top scorers for Thorndale were Kaden Kovar, 12 points; Kale Meadors, 11; Jayden Clawson, 10; and Case McDaniel with nine.

Later in the week Thorndale took on the rival Thrall Tigers in their home gym and pulled out a key win 53-51. This was just the second game the Tigers have dropped all year, they are 4-2 in district.

COMING UP— The Bulldogs will now have a bye which will no doubt be a nice break for these coaches, players and fans after an emotional win against Thrall. They will then load up and go on the road against Granger at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Lions are 1-3 in district play.

Thorndale remains undefeated in district at 6-0.

Thorndale

Lady Bulldogs

The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs went to Milano last week to take on the Milano Lady Eagles and they lost 37-24. Thorndale was competitive and the game could have easily had a reverse score. Loose balls, defensive trips that gave up easy baskets were the difference in this game.

“Despite our point total, we executed offensively with great efficiency,” said Head Lady Dogs Basketball Coach Doug Franklin. “We just couldn’t make baskets. We shot 32 percent in this game. I was pleased with our effort.”

Thorndale then played a home game against the Thrall Tigers. The final score was Thrall 58, Thorndale 25. The Lady Bulldogs gave a great effort. They handled the ball well against a team that plays aggressively and puts a lot of pressure on their opponent.

Emily Reeves, Jacie Leho and Emily Northcott were noted as having good games.

“We played hard, we did a lot of things well, we only shot 29 percent from the floor. We rebounded well,” Coach Franklin said.

“We are looking forward to the next four district games. After this week we are probably fourth or fifth,” he added. “These next games are important to our season. We are planning on performing well enough to earn a playoff spot.”

COMING UP— The Lady Bulldogs will have a bye early in the week followed by a Friday road game against Granger. Tipoff will be 6 p.m.
