The Rockdale Tigers won third place with a 4-2 record at the Buffalo Tournament this past weekend.
The blue-and-gold lost their first game to Georgetown’s Gateway College Prep 57-45 after being outscored 15-2 in the final quarter. The Tigers followed the loss with three consecutive wins over West Hardin 46-17, Deweyville 42-33 and a 42-41 victory over Alvarado after trailing 18-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Rockdale fell by 12 to Gateway again with a 46-34 loss. The Tigers ended the calendar year with a 64-46 win over New Waverly for the third place trophy.
Rockdale resumes district play at home on Friday, Jan. 4 against the Troy Trojans. The Lady Tigers will also play after a two weeks off. Tip-off begins at 6:30 p.m. for the 2-2 Lady Tigers, and 7:45 p.m. for the 0-2 Tigers.
Milano
The Lady Eagles defeated the Somerville Lady Yeguas 53-45 in an overtime win on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Eagles were led by Hannah Batten and Sterling Robertson, with 15 points apiece. Kristian Taylor also had six points in Milano’s home victory. The girls play on Friday at home against Bartlett. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Eagles also played Somerville but on the road and lost 62-37. Milano fell behind after trailing 19-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Milano plays in Flatonia on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Thorndale
The Lady Bulldogs won the Thorndale Shootout on Thursday and Friday this past week. They defeated Groesbeck 64-31. Maddie Smith was the leading scorer with 22 points, and Elise Biar had 19. Savanna Taylor and Ariana Anders had eight and six points respectively.
The Bulldogs went 2-2 in the Tenaha Tournament over the past weekend following Christmas.
Thorndale opened tourney play with a 73-35 win over Elysian Fields. Sam Reaves led the squad with 31, and Ty Kovar had 18. The ‘Dawgs then fell 54-39 to host Tenaha. Reaves scored 21, and Kolby Neumeyer had seven.
The Bulldogs bounced back with a 62-59 win over Neches. Neumeyer led the team with 23, and Reaves had 15. Jagger Rubio also had eight points. The Bulldogs ended their time in Tenaha with a 53-48 loss to Cushing after being outscored 24-9 in the first quarter. Reaves led with 28, and Michael Herzog had eight.
Both Thorndale teams continue district 25-2A play on Friday, Jan. 4 at home against Granger. Tip-off begins at 6:15 p.m. for the Lady Bulldogs, and 7:45 p.m. for the Bulldogs.
