Late Friday afternoon, the Lady Tiger volleyball team was ready to play their district contest with the McGregor Lady Bulldogs, who had made the 73-mile trip to RHS.
Due to a referee shortage that day, both teams ended up having to wake up on a Saturday morning to play. The game was scheduled for 9 a.m. since the Blue-and-Gold had multiple girls competing in the Miss Rockdale Fair pageant.
When the time came, the Lady Tigers swept MHS, winning 3-0.
LAST WEEK— Rockdale also faced Lexington this past Tuesday. Despite losing, Lady Tiger Julie Bartsch reached a milestone during the evening. The RHS senior recorded her 1,400th kill at the net. Bartsch, a Texas Sportswriters Association All-State selection in 2021, also recorded her 1,300th kill against Lexington when the two teams faced off on Friday, Sept. 16.
The RHS four-sport athlete is the daughter of Brad and Tina Bartsch of Rockdale.
T HIS WEEK— RHS traveled to Lorena on Tuesday after press time and head to Troy on Friday. The Lady Tigers are 4-7 in district play and sit right outside the playoff bubble in fifth place.
First serve is at 4:30 p.m.
