Thorndale Boys – The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season as the fell short to the IA No. 3 ranked Calvert Cavaliers 59-40. Blake Roberts led the Bulldogs in scoring with 11 points. Other scorers included Logan Davis 7, Dean Johnson 7, Jake Ivy 6, Chance Betak 5, Cayden Nicholson 3 and Cain Brymer 2.
Despite the loss, THS Head Coach Michael Williams says he expects his team to learn from it and bounce back.
“Even in the loss I felt like we got better,” Williams said. “It is good to play really good teams early in the year that give you an idea of the areas we need to improve in as a team. I’m proud of our effort, but there is definitely room for improvement.”
The Bulldogs will look to return to their winning ways as they will travel to face the Weimar Wildcats on Friday.
Thorndale Girls – Lady Tigers continued their hot start to the season as they dominated the Calvert Lady Cavaliers 91-12.
Abby Dickerson led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 16 points. Other scorers included Tristyn Buchanan 12, Ashley Pesl 11, Makayla Lafferty 10, Kyndal Robinson 8, Kelsey Kovar 8, Kassidy Eubanks 6, Natalie Dear 6, Bailee Baker 5, Emily Reeves 3, Kiera Rash 2 and Kinley Meadows 2, Jacey Paulsen 2.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 3-1 on the season. They will look to continue their win streak against the Academy Bumblebees on Friday at Academy.
Milano Boys – On Tuesday, the Eagles hosted the Snook Bluejays. Both teams played tough and fought until the end, however, the Blue Jays would triumph in a close battle 51-48. Bryson Richards was the top scorer for the Eagles with 16 points. Other scorers included: Jayce Todd 13, Weston Avrett 5, Gael Alcala 4, Layne Telg 3, Ethan Gordon 3, Monte Taylor 2 and Hector Munoz 2.
The Eagles hold a record of 1-4 this season. They will look to return to the win column as they get ready to face the Iola Bulldogs on Friday at home.
Milano Girls – The Lady Eagles struggles continue as they were defeated in their last two contest. Before Thanksgiving break, the Lady Eagles hosted the North Zulch Lady Bulldogs. They were defeated 52-20. Laynie Rose lead the Lady Eagles in scoring as she knocked down three three-pointers for nine total points. Montgomery Popham scored six points in the contest.
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles came up short against the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars 55-17. Kandace Koenig scored seven points. Popham scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds.
“We are a young team this year, all freshmen and sophomores,” MHS Head Coach Stacey Compton said. “At times, we have four freshmen on the floor. We had two starters back from illness and injury for the Rosebud game. The girls are hard workers and are improving on something every game.”
The ladies look to turn their season around on Friday against the Rockdale Lady Tigers in Rockdale.
