The game we’ve all been waiting for is almost here. The Tigers will face the Cameron Yoemen in the “Battle of the Bell.” The RHS-Cameron rivalry dates back to 1954 and the winner obtains bragging rights until next season.
The Yoemen have won the bell for the last two years, so RHS will be pursuing the trophy with a vengeance. With division play continuing, a win is crucial for the Tigers who are 0-1 in the 11-3A division standings.
“They’re (Cameron) super athletic and very well coached,” RHS Head Coach Jacob Campsey said. “Getting the bell is a big deal. It’s two prideful programs going at it and it’s always a fun atmosphere.”
ROCKDALE—RHS is coming off of a tough loss against division foe McGregor, 49-40. The Tigers are on a three-game losing streak and look to return to the win column against their bitter rival.
The Tiger offense has been solid as they’ve scored at least 34 points in four of their five games. They showed a balanced attack in last week’s matchup with 185 passing yards and 137 rushing yards.
The defense looks to bounce back after giving up 399 total yards against McGregor. However, they did show their potential by holding the Bulldogs score less in the fourth quarter.
Players to watch: Cam’ron Valdez is coming off a great performance in which his 97 yards were enough to break the RHS all-time rushing record. Wide receiver Kesean Raven is a dynamic player for the Tigers. His speed and route running can be a problem for any defensive back. Raven put on a show against McGregor as he tied his career high with three receiving touchdowns. Defensive lineman Ty Mayberry is the key disruptor for the Tigers. He logged 14 tackles and a tackle for loss against McGregor last Friday.
CAMERON—The Yoemen enter Friday’s game with great momentum after defeating the Caldwell Hornets 54-27.
Like Rockdale, the Yoemen have a high-powered offense of their own that averages 38 points per game. They have the ability to attack in different ways as they acquired 347 total yards against Caldwell.
The Cameron defense has been solid allowing only one team to score over 27 points. The Yoemen look to remain unbeaten in the division.
Players to watch: Junior quarterback Zane Zeinert has been coming into his own averaging 211 passing yards per game. The Yoemen have a two-headed monster at wide receiver with Za’Korien Spikes and Jaidyn Sanchez. Both receivers have a knack for getting open and can make plays down the field. Linebacker Fabien Salomon was a tackling machine against Caldwell acquiring 22 total tackles.
