Rockdale residents will start hearing early morning band rehearsals next week, as Adrian Acevedo, director of bands for RISD, posted a four-week summer band practice schedule for students participating in marching band this fall.
Because UIL and Texas Education Agency strict COVID-19 guidelines, the band hall will not be open or available for students to congregate before or after school.
Every day, the band will meet outside at the practice field and students will be required to provide their own water for rehearsals, as school-assigned water fountains are off limits, according to the schedule. Students who chose not to abide by these expectations will be asked to leave.
If a student is not feeling well, please notify the school and stay at home. Anyone who comes in contact with a person positive for COVID-19 is expected to follow the quarantine guidelines set by the state.
Acevedo included a list of student expectations which include: abiding by social distancing expectations; not sharing anything or making contact with anyone before, during or after practice; using hand sanitizer (provided) and washing hands frequently; wearing appropriate clothing for rehearsals (light-colored t-shirt, cloth shorts and comfortable tennis shoes and caps and sunglasses are encouraged); bringing plenty of water and wearing sunscreen; abiding by arrival and departure procedures as directed; adhering to instructions as to where to place belongings and waiting to be dismissed after practice (students will be dismissed at different times).
