ROGERS—The Tigers were on fire in the first quarter, starting off with a 12-3 run over host Rogers, but spent the rest of evening with no luck in replicating that early run, falling 46-41 to the Eagles this past Friday.

Near the end of the opening half, Rogers took a 19-17 lead but with a string of shots from Robert Owens, David Penny and Gerren Marrero, the Tigers led, 23-20 at halftime.

Despite a low-scoring third quarter for the Tigers, Rogers also scored very little thanks to strong defensive play by the Blue-and-Gold. Going into the fourth up 32-24, the Blue-and-Gold was in an ideal position. However, they went cold in the final quarter, scoring just two points in the fourth. As Rogers gained some steam on offense, the game went into overtime with a score of 34-34 at the end of regulation.

Rockdale’s scoring slump continued in extra time, as the Tigers were unable to prevail and still winless in district play (0-5).

Chris Perez led Rockdale with 14 points.

THIS WEEK— The Tigers faced Cameron on the road after press time and stay home this Friday to take on Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

LADY TIGERS— After taking down Troy this past Tuesday, 49-42, the Lady Tigers struggled in the second half against Rogers, falling 54-32.

Leading scorers for the Blue-and-Gold were Ciara Miles with 14, Mijah Crawford with five and Saige Robertson with four.

THIS WEEK— The Lady Tigers opened the second half of district play this week with Cameron on Tuesday and take on Academy at home, Friday at 6:15 p.m.

With a record of 3-4, the Lady Tigers are right outside the playoff bubble in fifth place. State-ranked Lorena (7-0) and Academy (6-1) are in first and second, while Troy and Rogers, the schools they faced last week, are in third and fourth.

RHS has struggled since Miles sprained a ligament in her knee when they faced Academy on Friday, Dec. 16.
