Lady Tiger basketball kicked off the 2022-23 season with a victory, defeating visitor Milano, 50-38.
RHS junior Ciara Miles led the group with 18 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and four assists. Other leading scorers for the Blue-and-Gold include Mijah Crawford, who scored 12 and Saige Robertson, who ended the game with eight. Alyssa Trinity Hurd had four and Grace Patton had three.
Top performers for the Lady Eagles, who reached the playoffs last year, were Montgomery Popham, Raylee Keen and Shakeva Gooden. They each had eight points. Kadance Koenig and Laynie Rose both had seven. THIS WEEK— Rockdale improved their record to 2-0 after taking down Caldwell on the road, 50-48 Tuesday after press time.
They return to action on Friday, when they host Class 4A
Jarrell for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off. The Lady Cougars are 2-1 through their first three games with wins over Thrall (55-44) and Rockdale district foe Troy (5615).
TIGERS— L i ke t he Lady Tigers, the boys in blue-and-gold also opened their year with a victory. On Saturday afternoon, they beat Class 6A Bastrop at home, 65-47.
Leading scorers for f irst year head coach Sean Lexima’s squad were seniors Chris Perez and Robert Owens, who had 16 points apiece. Their classmate Ivan Bonner also had a lot of impact on the floor, earning a double- double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
THIS WEEK— After press time, the RHS varsity picked up their second win after throttling Class 2A Snook, 67-36.
The Tiger s a re of f this Friday, but return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 21, when they host Bartlett.
Tip-off with the Bulldogs is at 6 p.m.
JUNIOR VARSITY—
Prior to the varsity taking on Bastrop Saturday afternoon, the junior varsity picked up a win over the Bears, 56-22.
The freshmen team fell short against the BHS ninth grade squad 30-22.
