Rockdale High School’s Jesus Bocanegra earned his third consecutive trip to the Region III cross country meet. The RHS junior placed second overall on Monday at the District 19-3A meet in Cameron with a season’s best time of 16:09.8.
The Tiger team narrowly missed out on qualifying, placing fourth overall. In cross country, a team’s score is the combined total places of a team’s top five runners, meaning the team with the least amount of points wins the meet. Rockdale’s overall score of 67 points was just five points removed from winner Cameron, who had 62. Second place McGregor had 64 and third place Troy had 65, beating RHS for the final regional team spot.
Bocanegra competes again on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Kate Barr-Ross Park in Huntsville. Race time for the Tiger junior is at 8:45 a.m.
JV— Rockdale’s junior varsity boys team won their race with Jesse Montelongo picking up silver with a time of 20:18 and Daniel Castillo earning bronze with a 20:35.7. Pedro Tenorio also placed seventh.
