RHS Freshman Jesus Bocanegra’s stellar season came to a close on Monday as he participated in the Cross Country 3A State Meet. He finished 78th with a time of 17:36 in a five kilometer run.

“Competing in state as a freshman was a fun experience,” Bocanegra said. “There were a lot of runners and it was a fast and hard course. I’m glad I got the experience and hopefully I’ll be back here for the next three years. I couldn’t have done it without Coach Meuth. She has pushed me every practice to make me a better runner. I can’t wait to see my next three years in cross country. Now I’m ready for track season.”

Bocanegra has been dominant for the Tigers all season long. Some of his highlights include securing the best time in the district, winning the District 19 meet in October and propelling the Rockdale Boys Cross Country team to a fourth place finish at regionals.

“I am super proud of his performance,” RHS Head Coach Cheryl Meuth said. “I kept telling him that he’s a freshman at a the state meet. There is so much for him to be proud of and lessons he can take with him to prepare for the future.”

Coach Meuth also discussed Bocanegra’s work ethic and how much he means to the program.

“He takes every bit of feedback and is so coachable,” Meuth said. “He’s definitely done a lot for the team as a whole.”

With one year of experience under his belt, the future is bright for Bocanegra. He hopes to duplicate his success for the Tiger track team this spring.
