Rockdale High School junior Whitley Boyd wrapped up the UIL Class 3A state golf tournament on Tuesday afternoon in Austin with a score of 92-102-194 finishing 34th out of 70 golfers playing.

“I couldn’t really get anything going on Tuesday,” Boyd said. “Coach Noel said to me ‘you couldn’t find your swing today and that happens to everybody, but it’s just no fun that it happened on the second day of state.’

“I definitely had higher expectations, but nonetheless, it was a great experience and I’m really excited to see what I can do my senior year.”

Boyd finished among the top 20 golfers with a score of 92 on Monday. On the second day, she shot a 102 while paired with Brady High School’s Rylee Meyers and Comfort High School’s Paitlyn Maltsberger. She ended her two-day play with a finish in the top-half of golfers.

“That course was a challenge,” RHS golf coach Ethan Noel said about the par-72 course that is spread over 160 acres. It has hosted a U.S. Open qualifier and the Texas Women’s Amateur Championship. “You have to really hit the ball to score well there. But for her to make it there and put together two days of good golf is awesome. She works really hard on her game and it shows with how she’s improved. I’m really proud of her.”

This was Boyd’s second straight state appearance at the tournament after shooting a 107-113-220 as a part of a third place team.

Boyd finished as the third individual medalist in the District 25-2A and Region III tournaments in April to make it to state this past week.

THORNDALE – Maddie Fisher finished 39th out of 70 at the UIL Class 2A state golf championship earlier this week at the Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin.

The THS senior shot a 99-99-198 in the two day tournament. Fisher made it after finishing as the second place individual medalist at district and regionals in April.
