A lot of shuffling around happened to form 13-2A-I, Thorndale’s new home.
The district brings together Hearne, Holland and the Bulldogs, who were three of the four playoff teams last season from 12-2A-I.
Highway 79 neighbor and rival Thrall also joins the pack, who lost the tiebreaker for the final post-season spot last fall.
Flatonia and Schulenburg, who made the playoffs last year will join the Central Texas teams along with Weimar.
The Bulldogs are picked as runner-up behind Hearne, who they battled for the 12-2A-I championship last season. Holland, who has won four district crowns since 2015 and placed second three times since 2014, is picked third. Schulenburg is pegged to take fourth by the publication. Flatonia is picked for fifth, Thrall is slated for sixth and Weimar is anticipated to finish last by the Dave Campbell crew.
In terms of what the magazine says about THS, they describe the Bulldogs as a team that will be reliant on having healthy players in order to finish in one of the top two spots. Texas Football also compliments senior quarterback Coy Stutts and his classmate Clason Beasley, who averaged 41.7 yards per reception through the first eight games last fall. L i nebac ker s Luke Merz and Brenton Wihite are said to lead the team’s defense. They also mention Kaleb Yount, Aiden McRae, Jaden Clawson, Alvin Theis, Samari Ware, Raymond Avalos and Hunter Thigpen.
THS plays their first scrimmage at Bulldog Stadium on Friday, Aug. 12, and stays at home for their season opener on Friday, Aug. 26, against Class 3A Lexington.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
MILANO—After dealing with numerous injuries last season, second-year head coach Nick Morehead and the Milano Eagles are picked to finish fourth and make the playoffs in District 13-2A-II, the smaller classification in 2A.
They describe quarterback Chris Vasquez playing with sophomore running back Chris Vasquez and veteran lineman Ethan Gordon. The magazine also mentions Josh Millar making the move to defensive end and praises Greg Storey, who they say is a strong tackle on both the offensive and defensive line.
The Magazine also mentions Layne Ferrell, Edison Bui as the top junior and Gerald Dykes as the team’s top sophomore. Alan Maldonado, Ryan Tate, Gabe Sanders, Gael Alcala and Irvin Juarez were also mentioned.
Chilton, who was ranked ninth in Texas Football’s Class 2A-II Pre-Season Poll, is picked to win the district while perennial power Bremond was selected as the runner-up. Longtime district foe Granger is picked to place third in front of the Eagles. Iola, who gave MHS a tough match-up last year, is picked fifth and Bartlett is selected to finish sixth.
The Eagles host Itasca for their first scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 12 and make their season debut in Waco against Reicher Catholic School on Friday, Aug. 26.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
