Lady Dogs finish first half of district undefeated

Thorndale’s boys basketball team grabbed two district wins last week, taking down rival Thrall last Tuesday 72-50 and beating Granger 55-33 Friday on the road.

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start with GHS, trailing 7-2 in the first two minutes of the game.

Thorndale was able to tie it all back up toward the end of the first quarter. By the opening minute of the second quarter, THS improved their lead to 16-8 and never looked back to remain undefeated in district play with a record of 3-0.

Leading scorers for the ’Dawgs were Chance Betak with 20, Kaden Kovar with 9 and Dean Johnson with 6.

THIS WEEK—THS, who is ranked 13th in Class 2A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, faced Hearne on Tuesday after press time and head to Milano Friday to the district’s other undefeated team.

MHS is coming off a week where the Eagles had three wins in four days with a 59-55 home victory over Holland, a 50-38 road win in Hearne and 73-48 beat down in Thrall.

Game time between the two Milam County schools is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., at the Geneva Paceley Gymnasium.

LADY DOGS—THS coach Bradley Dickerson’s team is still undefeated after the past week with double-digit wins over Thrall and Granger, ending the first half of District 27-2A play with a record of 5-0.

To get their fifth district win, the Lady Dogs won convincingly over Granger, 70-38 on Friday evening. Leading scorers were Makayla Lafferty with 16, Abby Dickerson with 14 and Kelsey Kovar with 13.

Other scorers for Thorndale were Bailee Baker with 9, Kinley Meadors with 7 and Kyndal Robinson with 2.

THRALL—Across the Williamson County line in Thrall, the Lady Dogs took down the Tigerettes 76-28.

The Milam County school got off to a fast start, leading 26-4 at the close of the first quarter. The Lady Dogs added on to their lead to sustain their advantage for the rest of the game.

THIS WEEK—Like the Bulldogs, the Lady Dogs played Hearne Tuesday after The Reporter’s weekly deadline and head to Milano for a re-match with the Lady Eagles on Friday.

Although district play started off rough for MHS, a team with no seniors on the roster, Milano is coming off a 44-37 win over Thrall.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
