TROY—Despite having missing players while also enduring injuries, the Thorndale Bulldog basketball team escaped Troy’s Christmas tournament undefeated with four wins in two days.

The ‘Dawgs began their time in Bell County on Tuesday with two blowout victories over Class 3A schools Hillsboro (60-46) and Florence (77-45). A day later, they closed out their time up north with wins over two more Class 3A programs McGregor (50-33) and host Troy (39-38). Without a loss, Thorndale was named tournament champion.

THIS WEEK— Ranked 21st in the Texas Association’s of Basketball Coaches’ Class 2A poll released this past Monday, the Bulldogs faced Granger on Tuesday after press time. THS plays next on Friday night, when they travel to Bartlett.

With nearly half of the enrollment of Thorndale Hig h School , BHS has struggled this season facing mostly bigger schools, but has wins over Rockdale, Avalon and Community Christian (Mineral Wells). Bartlett is o-1 in district play after falling to Milano 58-38 on Tuesday, Dec. 20 and the one common opponent they share with Thorndale is Troy, whom they lost to 60-40 on Nov. 29.

Tip-off between the two schools is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
