The Thorndale Bulldogs were victorious in a tough battle against the Thrall Tigers 21-19. They are now 6-2 on the season overall and 4-1 in district play.
“Overall, I feel like we played a good game,” RHS Head Coach John Kovar said. “We played a very physical game and improved our special teams play. I was impressed with the effort we showed.”
The Bulldogs would score first, with Cain Brymer scoring on a four-yard touchdown run. Thrall responded with a 15-yard touchdown run by Colter Hill. The Tiger extra pointwas no good giving the Bulldogs a 7-6 lead.
In the second quarter, quarterback Coy Stutts connected with Styker Leschber on a 60-yard strike for a touchdown. The Bulldogs lead 14-6 at the half.
In the third quarter, Thrall would attempt to come back as Hill scored his second touchdown of the day with a four-yard run. The two-point conversion was no good. The Bulldogs answered with Brymer snagging a 10-yard pass from Stutts to extend their lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers scored on a oneyard run to make the score 21-19.
Stutts went 7 of 12 for 167 passing yards and two touchdowns. Mason Lindig led the Bulldogs in rushing with nine carries for 27 yards, while Leschber led the team in receiving with two catches for 63 yards and one touchdown.
As the regular season winds down, Coach Kovar says he wants his team to continue to play hard and stay focused.
“At the point in the season, we want to be at our peak performance,” Kovar said. “I’ve told the guys we have to stay focused and continue to give 100 percent effort in everything we do.”
The Bulldogs look to carry their momentum as they prepare for their final regular season game against the 7-0 Hearne Eagles on Friday at Hearne. If the Bulldogs win, they will have a chance to claim the district championship.
