After Christmas, Thorndale played in the Ten-aha Tournament, going 1-3 against top-ranked teams in Classes 1A through 3A.
They opened against Class 1A’s 13th-ranked Lipan beating LHS 61-51 in overtime after outscoring them 10-0 in post-regulation.
Kolby Neumeyer scored his tourney high of 27 while Ty Kovar had 10 and Dean Johnson had seven.
Next, they suffered their first loss of the tournament to host Tenaha 58-51.
The Bulldogs led at the close of the first, but the Class 2A’s fifth-ranked team went on a 26-14 run in the second quarter and held THS down for the remainder of the game.
Neumeyer led with 19, Garrett Bernstein had 12 and Chance Betak scored nine.
For their final two games, Thorndale faced even tougher opponents.
First, they went up against Atlanta, Class 3A’s 12th-ranked team.
The Rabbits led 20-19 over THS at the end of the first but once again, Thorndale was outscored in the second 19-8, trailing 39-27 at halftime.
Atlanta sustained their lead through an even second half and THS lost 66-52.
Logan Davis led with 11, Neumeyer had 10 and Kovar had nine.
In their final contest, they fought back before coming up short 47-45 to Mineola, the 18th-ranked team in Class 3A.
Betak led with 15, Neumeyer had 12 and Davis had 10.
THIS WEEK–The Bulldogs begin district play on Friday in Thrall for their first meeting of the season.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
LADY BULLDOGS–
While the Bulldogs were far away, the Lady Bulldogs were right at home playing in the Thorndale Shootout.
They began pool play on Friday morning defeating Florence 63-28.
THS had three players in double-digits with Makayla Lafferty scoring 16, Riley Calk ending the game with 12 and Savanna Taylor with
10.
Later that evening, Thorndale clobbered another opponent, beating Temple’s Central Texas Christian School 53-25.
The next day, they encountered tough competition. The Lady Bulldogs first fell to a 7-3 Rogers team 48-30 after being outscored 25-7 in the first half.
Lafferty led with 14 and Calk and Taylor each had
six.
In their final game, Thorndale lost to Class 3A Salado 38-33.
THS went into halftime up 21-17 but the Lady Eagles took over in the third with a 17-8 run over Thorndale.
Lafferty led with 11, Taylor had eight and Kiera Rash and Kyndal Robinson each had four.
THIS WEEK–The Lady Bulldogs play next on Friday in Thrall.
As of press time, the Lady Bulldogs are 1-0 in district
