In a head-to-head battle between two top-ranked teams, the Thorn-dale Bulldogs got their first district loss in a double overtime heartbreaker to Hearne 84-83.

The game was even throughout, with both teams staying within one point of each other. After the Eagles had a three-point lead in the final seconds of regulation, Sam Reaves made three free throws with seven seconds left in the game.

In overtime, it was Hearne that kept the game going when Anquan Boxley made two free throws off the glass, tying the game at 74 to force another OT.

Hearne’s Damian Dunn took over, getting a steal late in the game to give the Eagles an 84-83 victory

The Bulldogs were led by Reaves with 26 points, Kolby Neumeyer with 19, and Evan Ivy with 16. Ty Kovar had 10 and Michael Herzog had eight.

On Tuesday, THS was named the district 25-2A champions after winning a coin flip with Hearne. The date and location of their bi-district playoff game has yet to be decided as of press time.

Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs defeated the Milano Eagles 91-40. Reaves had 22, and Ivy and Chance Betak each had 11. Neumeyer had 10, and Herzog had eight.

Lady Bulldogs —

The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs finished their District 25-2A schedule undefeated with a 63-28 victory over Milano on Tuesday evening, making their 17th straight playoff appearance and winning their 11th district title since the 2002-03 season.

“I felt like we played well in our last three district games,” said Bradley Dickerson, Thorndale High School girl’s head basketball coach. “We got sloppy on offense around the time we played Thrall a couple of weeks ago.

“But every game after that was much better.”

The district champs were led by Savanna Taylor with 20 points and Elise Biar with 14. Jordyn Smith also scored in the double-digits with

10. Landry Laywell and Makayla Lafferty each had six.

THS made it through the bi-district round of the playoffs with a 47-31 win over Iola on Tuesday and face Harper on Friday in Marble Falls at 6:30 p.m.

If Thorndale wins, they will likely have to face San Saba in the regional quarterfinals. The Lady Dillos were 6-2 in District 27-2A but are ranked eighth in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches

poll. Their only losses were to the Mason Cowgirls, the second-ranked team on the TABC poll. As of Monday, Thorndale is ranked ninth.

“I haven’t even looked that far down the line to a potential third-round matchup with San Saba just because the first two rounds are going to be tough.”
