After nine straight weeks of preparing for Friday’s competition, the Thorn-dale Eulldojs finally have a chance to rest.

“The open week comes at a perfect time,” THS football coach Scott Hawkins told the Reporter last week.

The 7-2 Bulldogs got off to an explosive 4-1 start with three of those wins being by more than 50 points. Hawkins told the Reporter at the time that the lopsided victories were more concerning than gratifying since he knew tougher teams were on the horizon.

After their 63-0 district opening win over Rosebud-Lott, Thorndale faced their most challenging opponent yet when they fell in Holland 40-13, Tex - a oot all M a a e seventh-ranked team in Class 2A-1.

Following the loss, THS went on to beat rival Thrall 36-13 in the Battle of 79 and Milano 48-16 in the Milam County Showdown.

This past week, Thorn-dale had another tough test when they traveled down to Hearne to face a team that made it three rounds deep in the 2018 playoffs that still had the same core of talent from that team. Thorndale took down the highly-touted Eagles 63-28 in a game Hawkins said was the best they’ve played all season.

Ior their district finale, THS prepares for a 2-6 Marlin team that has improved a lot since last year’s winless season. I f Thorndale takes down MHS, they will go into the state playoffs as the second place team from District 13-2A-1 and will likely face Center Point, whom beat Sabinal 60-6 on Friday and place unction for third place this week.

The Bulldogs beat the Pirates 55-24 in their bi-district game in Marble Falls last season.

MARLIN–Thorndale plays in their final district game Friday against a much-improved Marlin team that has bounced back from a winless season to being 2-3 in district as of this week.

Kickoff for the Bulldogs against Marlin begins at 7:30 p.m.

STATS–With a team that’s ran the ball more than 400 times this season, the Bulldogs have four running backs with more than 300 yards this season.

Cain Brymer leads the pack with 743 yards on 103 carries and Michael Herzog isn’t too far behind him with 702 yards on 78 carries. Mason Lindig has 450 yards on 74 carries and J agger Rubio, who has been injured much of the season, has 396 yards for 43 carries.

Herzog is the only receiver with more than 100 yards with 115.

He has also caught seven of Thorndale’s 13 completed passes this season. THS has thrown 26 times this year.
