The Thorndale Bulldogs defeated Bartlett 92-42 in their second win of the season. The Bulldogs were led with 28 points from all-state selection Sam Reaves. Thorndale also had double-digit scoring from Evan Ivy (12), Kolby Neumeyer (11), and Garrett Bernstein (10).

The day before, the 2017 state semi-finalists took down Little River-Academy, 75-64 for their season opening win. According to Texas Basketball Magazine, Academy is picked to win district 19-3A (Rock-dale’s district). The Bulldogs were helped by a fast start, leading 36-27 at halftime. Thorndale held on in the second half to win the game by 11. Reaves and Neumeyer both led the ‘Dawgs in points, with 34 and 23. Ty Kovar also had 11 points in the season debut.

“Our expectations are the same as they’ve been” said John Kovar, Thorn-dale High School boy’s head basketball coach. “We have three kids with varsity experience, but we will have several kids coming up from a good junior varsity team last season.”

The Thorndale Bulldogs play their next game against Pflugerville-Weiss on Friday at 10:30 in Salado for their first tournament game.

Girls- The Thorndale girl’s basketball team got their first win of the season 46-32 over Rockdale on Monday, Nov. 19.

The game was the 2018-19 debut for the five members of the Thorndale volleyball team. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Savanna Taylor’s 12 points. Maddie Smith also had 11 points, and Elise Biar scored eight.

“We did well for having one practice,” said Bradley Dickerson, Thorndale High School girl’s head basketball coach. “We are working to get into shape. We’ve had someone sick every single practice, so we’re doing our best to get everyone on the same page.

The Lady Bulldogs lost their first game of the season against Aggieland Home School 41-38.

“I believe we’ll have a good team this year,” Dickerson said. “We have three seniors and four juniors playing, but there will be a lot of room for underclassmen to fit in.”

The Lady Bulldogs played Cameron on Tuesday after press time, and play their next game against Hubbard on Thursday at 10. This will be their first game of a three day tournament in Moody.
