Thorndale will face 10-1 Refugio Friday night in LaGrange

JARRELL—Thorndale took on Riesel in a Class 2A Division I bi-district playoff game that was played in Jarrell last Friday night and the Bulldogs came home a winner. The final score was Thorndale 41, Riesel 35.

After allowing the Indians to score first, the Bulldogs’ Jayden Clawson ran 70 yards on a kick return that tied the game 7 to 7.

Both Thorndale and Riesel put up 14 points in the second quarter—Bulldog running back Noah Crabtree scored twice before the half. Crabtree ran four yards and from one yard out to hit paydirt. This tied the game 21-21 at the half.

Things continued to be even in the third quarter with each team scoring touchdowns but failing to make the extra point kicks.

Crabtree continued to be relied on by pushing two yards into the end zone. The score after three quarters was tied 27-27.

Finally things broke in Thorndale’s favor in the fourth quarter with Crabtree scoring from one yard and five yards out. Both of kicker Kade Becker’s extra point kicks were good.

The Bulldog defense did let the Indians score again but the final score was Thorndale 41, Riesel 35.

AREA— Thorndale will now face off against Refugio for an area game in LaGrange at 7 p.m. Friday.

STATS— Indiv idual players stats for the game were as follows:

• Rushing— Gunner Ferguson, 20 carries for 192 yards; Noah Crabtree, 30 carries for 106 yards.

• Passing— Ferguson, 5 out of 10 for 45 yards.

• Receiving— Jayden Clawson, 2 catches for 35 yards.

• Touchdowns— Crabtree, 5; Clawson 1.
