After more than twoand- half months, Thorndale Bulldog football had their first week off from live compet i t ion, g iving them time to rest before a very pivotal part of their season.

Currently sitting in second place in District 13-2A-I with a record of 4-1, the Bulldogs take on 3-2 Hearne this week to determine whether THS will remain as the district’s runner-up or finish in third. The r e i s also a possibility the Bulld ogs could finish in fourth if they lose to Hearne and if undefeated Flatonia also loses to Holland.

However, FHS has beaten every district opponent they have played so far by more than two touchdowns.

Hearne, who they will face at Bulldog Stadium on Thursday due to inclement weather expected to hit the area on Friday, has been hot-and-cold throughout much of the season.

In week two, they barely lost to Burton 6-0, a team that is ranked second overall in Class 2A-I in the most recent Texas Football magazine poll. The Eagles were also the only team to come within 20 points of district leader Flatonia. But HHS struggled against Holland, who they lost to 42-19 on Saturday, Oct. 22. The Bulldogs beat the Hornets 56-54 earlier in October.

The Robertson County squad is led by senior Keyshawn Langham, who has passed for 1,126 yards in nine games. Langham is also the team’s leading rusher with 621 yards on the ground. Other top players for the Eagles are Jecory McGrew, who has 541 on 90 carries and receivers Dereion Mitchell and Jeremiah Gurode, who each have more than 400 receiving yards this season.

Game time between the two schools is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
