A little more than halfway through the first quarter of Friday’s game, Thorndale was tied at seven with Riesel after RHS receiver Bryson May scored on a 71-yard touchdown pass from Bryson Hoel- scher. The tie didn’t last long, as Coy Stutts scored his second TD of the night 17 seconds later on a 58-yard run to put his team up 13-7.
Afterwards, the Bulldogs added four more touchdowns with a three-yard run by Luke Merz in the final minute of the first followed by touchdowns by Aiden McRae, Clason Beasley and Merz in the second, giving THS a comforting 40-7 lead. Both teams scored once more in the first half, w ith R iesel’s Tyson Grogan adding seven more points for his team on a goal line run with 33 seconds left. Thorndale sophomore Jayden Clawson scored on the final play of the second quarter when he caught a 26-yard pass from Stutts to make it 47-14 at halftime.
The second half didn’t have as much noise, with Thorndale scoring once in the third quarter on a 27-yard run by McRae and Riesel’s Mason scoring on a 14-yard run midway the fourth. Thorndale held their lead and won, 54-21, picking up their second straight win and the first game of their season that wasn’t decided by two points.
THIS WEEK— Thorndale hits the road again Friday to face Iola in their final non-district contest of 2022.
IHS is 1-2 and is coming off a 54-14 loss to L ovelady this past week.
Iola is a Class 2A-II school that is picked to place fifth in District 13-2A is an
experienced, but also young team.
Game time between both Bulldog teams is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
