A Rockdale brother and sister are challenging the community to raise money for heart research.

Tatiana Olivares, now an RHS freshman raised $3,000 in the annual Jump Rope for Heart competitions while in intermediate school, becoming the campus’s top fund raiser.

The effort was in memory of her late cousin, Naomi Ruelas.

Now, Luke Olivares is in the fifth grade and has been the top fund raiser in the program the past two years, raising $560 in the third grade and $505 in the fourth grade.

His goal this year—Jump Rope for Heart is now known as Kids Heart Challenge—is $1,000.

The public can support his effort by mailing a check to 501 E. Belton Rockdale, Texas, 76567 Make checks payable to the American Heart Association.

Deadline is quickly approaching.
