The Rockdale junior varsity football team ended their second game of the season with a tie against the Caldwell Hornets, 22-22.
Rockdale got off to a quick start with a big 30-yard run by Bryce Gov-an. Govan’s run put them in to the red zone with a five yard pass from Christian Mayfield to Amarion Butler. Mayfield completed the two-point conversion that followed. The first quarter came to an end with a 8-0 lead.
Caldwell scored in the second quarter, which followed with a successful two-point conversion. The score was tied 8-8 at halftime.
The Hornets went ahead in the third quarter, scoring and completing a two-point conversion. The Tigers scored on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Mayfield to wide receiver Anthony Dansby, but their conversion attempt failed. The Tigers were down 16-14 at the end of the third quarter.
Caldwell scored, but missed their two-point conversion. Mayfield made a 50-yard pass to Butler, and Govan completed that follow up. The game ended in a tie, 22-22.
According to Coach David Monroe, the offensive standouts were Butler, Govan, Dansby and Keymani Hamilton. The defensive standouts were Mayfield, Christian Briggs, Alex Ellison, and Aaron Avila.
