Rockdale High School boys and girls cross country teams kickoff the 2019 season next Thursday, Aug. 1, with their first practice at 6:30 a.m.

RHS lost four seniors to graduation but have a lot of young talent returning. Cady Barcak barely missed out on the 2018 Region III meet as a freshman when she missed the final qualifying spot by nine seconds.

Marina Costilla, who placed 20th, also returns and so do Ivanna Luna-Hernandez, who placed 23rd but also had a stellar track season after placing fifth at district in the mile as a freshman.

For the boys, Isaac Fuentes returns after finishing nineteenth at district last season. Junior Albert Silva is also back this season. Silva placed 31st at district but also had a nice spring as an area qualifier in the 800-meter run.

Their schedule has yet to be made available to the public.

MILANO-Milano ISD also starts practice for cross country next Thursday.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles will begin preparation for the season at 6 a.m., when they’ll have the majority of their practices.

“We’ll work around football and volleyball, but most practices will be at six.

Last season, MHS had only six runners go out for cross country but three qualified for regionals and one brought home a silver medal from state.

That medalist, Parker Jones, has graduated but Andy Gutierrez returns after placing sixth as a freshmen at district.

Danni Shaw qualified after placing eighth at district but was unable to run at the regionals due to injury. Abby Miller will also run. Miller placed 13th at district last year.

THORNDALE-Un-like other Milam County schools, THS head cross country coach Bradley Dickerson says the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will start practice on Monday, Aug. 5, at 7 a.m.

Both boy and girl teams qualified for the Region IV meet last season and both have the majority of their top runners returning this year.

For the girls, Ava Vicknair and Trew Schroeder are back after both finishing in the top 10 last year, placing sixth and ninth at the Region IV meet.

Mason Drumm is back for his senior season after placing fifth at district last season.
