Rockdale Tigers wide receiver Anthony Dansby made his verbal commitment to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday via Twitter.

“UMHB is a great program with great coaches,” Dansby said. “They kept things honest with me and let me know how things were going to be when I get there. They love to win so you can’t go wrong with winning a National Championship every year.”

Dansby was a two-year starter for the Tigers. This past season he totaled 36 catches for 685 yards and six touchdowns. His outstanding play resulted in recognition as a Division 1 District 11 second-team all-district selection.

Dansby said he feels that UMHB’s offense will be a great fit for the type of receiver he is.

“They run a spread offense and they are about 50/50 with passing and running the ball,” Dans-by said. “I’ll get my touches and be able to showcase my skills like I’ve done here in Rockdale.”

Dansby discussed what this commitment means to him and how it will lead to success in the future.

“This commitment means a lot,” Dansby said. “I’ve got a great chance at winning some college rings and most importantly, I’ve got four more years of playing my favorite sport. Hopefully, I get a chance to go to the NFL combine and get an opportunity to play in the league.”

Dansby also says he knows he has to put in the work if he wants to see the field early.

“When I first get there I don’t know if I’ll be an instant starter,” Dansby said. “UMHB has a lot of talent and they’ve even got Division I transfers. Everybody’s hungry to get a starting job. At the end of the day, I’ve got to go there and work harder than everybody and show my leadership. I have to be a great teammate and then show out and earn the starting role at receiver.”

RHS Head Football Coach Jacob Campsey expressed his excitement for Dansby and expects him to do great things at the next level.

“Dansby is going to be a great fit at UMHB,” Campsey said. “The coaches came to a few practices and they were very impressed with his combination of size and speed. His skillset matches what they want to do on offense. I am excited for him and expect him to make an impact there.”

Dansby chose the Crusaders over nine other scholarship offers including Monmouth College, Eastern New Mexico and Otterbein University in Ohio. He will be eligible to sign his letter of intent during the February signing day period.
