Lady Bulldog head coach gets his 499th win after securing third consecutive district title

For the third straight season, the Thorndale Lady Bulldog basketball team ended the regular season with a district title after taking down Milam County foe Milano 70-29 on Tuesday evening at the THS Gymnasium.

The girls were led by Savanna Taylor and Makayla Lafferty, who had 16 and 15 points on the night. Other top scorers for THS were Emilee Baker with nine, Riley Calk with seven and four points apiece from Abby Dickerson, Ashley Pesl, Bailee Baker and Kelsey Kovar.

Thorndale ends play in District 25-2A with a 11-1 record as the top-seed going into the bi-district round of the playoffs next week.

Date, location and opponent were not made public as of press time.

MILESTONE–The victory was the 499th win for Bradley Dickerson as Lady Bulldog coach and he will have the chance to grab 500 next week.

LAST WEEK–THS also defeated Mumford 66-18 when the two teams faced each other Friday.

Lafferty led with 15 while Taylor had 14 and Kyndal Robinson had 13.

B. Baker had eight, Kiera Rash had six, Pesl and Calk each had four and A. Dickerson had three.

BULLDOGS–Thorn-dale got their ninth win of district when they began the game with a 10-2 run over the Milano Eagles and never looked back, winning the contest 57-33.

Kolby Neumeyer led with 11 while Jagger Rubio had nine.

Other top scorers were Garrett Bernstein with eight and Logan Davis and Ty Kovar each had seven points.

Chance Betak had six and Branson McCoy had five.

LAST WEEK–The Bulldogs got their second district loss loss on Friday when they lost to Mumford 43-41.

The Bulldogs were led by Bernstein with 13 and Rubio, who had 11.

THIS WEEK–Thorn-dale plays their last district game on Friday against Hearne, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ third-ranked team in Class 2A in their latest poll.

The Bulldogs are ranked 14th in that same poll that was published this past Monday. Prior to the loss, they were ranked ninth overall.

PLAYOFFS–With Hearne undefeated and Mumford two games behind the Bulldogs in the win loss column, Thorn-dale is the undisputed second place team from District 25-2A.

Tip-off on Friday for Thorndale is 6:30 p.m.
