Sunday, Sept. 1 marks the beginning of dove season for Milam County hunters.

The Regular Season will begin in the Central zone of Texas, which is where Milam County is located, this Sunday and will come to a pause Thursday, Nov. 3., before continuing on Saturday, Dec. 20, until Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020.

There are five type of doves that hunters are permitted to shoot. The Eurasian Collared Dove and the Rock Dove are unprotected species with no restrictions when it comes to hunting. The Mourning Dove, the White-Wing Dove and the White-Tipped Dove are legal game birds but face certain restrictions.

and can only have a daily bag limit of 15 doves and can only have up to 45 doves in their posession. For falcons, there’s a daily bag limit of three and a shooter can have up to nine in his posession at a time. Shooters can only have two White-Tipped Doves in their daily limit and six in their possession.

Hunters are allowed to shoot from one-hour before sunrise until sunset.

SAFETY- According to Bass Pro Shop’s 1 Source, an online publication that provides dove hunting tips, all hunters should wear ear plugs, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat with a brim and shooting glasses or sunglasses. This source says shooters should also bring along some cold drinks, such as water, and binoculars to help identify what their potential target is.
