On Friday night, the Milano Eagle basketball team picked up their second straight win, taking down Granger 66-35 at the Lion Gymnasium.
Jayce Todd led MHS with 21 points and Bryson Richards scored 14.
Three days earlier, the Eagles picked up their first district win, beating Thrall 67-60 at home.
Todd led with 26 while Weston Avrett had 13.
Other key contributors for Milano were Ethen Gordon with nine and Richards with eight.
The Maroon-and-Gold are now 2-2 in district and tied with Thorndale, who they faced Tuesday on the road after press time.
Friday night, they play Hearne for the second time this season.
Although the Robertson County squad is without Micah Smith, a key player on their 2019 state semi-finalist team, they’re undefeated in district as of press time and ranked 22nd in Class 2A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. in Hearne.
LADY EAGLES—Milano’s girls fell 32-16 in Granger prior to the boys’ game.
Aaliyah McBrewer led MHS with eight.
Earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles fell to Thrall and Thorndale.
Against the Tigerettes on Tuesday they were up early but lost 27-26 in the final quarter.
Montgomery Popham led MHS with nine and McBrewer had eight. Kadance Koenig scored five and Laynie Rose had four.
On Wednesday, they fell to Milam County neighbor Thorndale in a homestand 71-13.
The young Lady Eagles squad faced Thorndale again Tuesday after press time.
They face 23rd-ranked Hearne on Friday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
