The Eagles fell to 1-2 on the season after they were shut out by the Bremond Tigers 42-0.
“We couldn’t get anything going offensively,” MHS Head Coach Chad Lagrone said. “Defensively we couldn’t stop their (Bremond) quarterback.”
The Eagles entered the game short-handed as starting quarterback Ethen Knight and two-way starter Chris Vazquez were unavailable during the game.
As a result, the offense struggled and were held scoreless for the second straight week. The Eagles gained only 99 yards of total offense and allowed the Tiger defense to earn eight tackles for loss.
The Milano defense forced a turnover on downs on the first possession of the game. However, Bremond quarterback Seth Kasowski took over the game afterwards.
The Tiger offense utilized the read option to perfection and the Eagles had no answer for it. Kasowski rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries and accounted for 257 of the Tigers’ 373 yards of total offense. In the first half alone, Kasowski had 174 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. He was pulled after three quarters of action.
The Eagles’ dynamic playmaker Josh Millar finished with 72 yards on 17 carries and led the team in tackles with seven. Coach Lagrone said Millar battled a nagging injury during the game.
“He was dealing with a few back spasms that hurt him a little bit, but he’ll bounce back,” Lagrone said. “He’s a high-energy guy, bigplay kind of guy, so he’ll get his touches next week.”
Jayce Todd led the Eagles with 19 passing yards while Hector Munoz led the team in receiving yards with 18. Behind Millar, Weston Avrett, Darius West and Munoz each acquired five tackles on the night. Lagrone discussed how he appreciated his team for playing with effort despite the loss.
“We played with effort, but we just lost to a better football team than what we are right now,” Lagrone said. “We just have to bounce back and continue to battle.”
Milano will begin district play next week against the 0-3 Snook Bluejays at home.
