Milano’s 2019 season came to an end Friday night with a 69-2 loss to Holland, Texas Football Magazine’s seventh-ranked team in Class 2A-I and the only undefeated team in District 13-2A-I.

The Hornets got off to a fast start with a 40-yard touchdown by Clay Cooper in the opening minute. HHS went up 14-0 with a 48-yard pass from Zane Spinn to Caleb Cearley two minutes later.

Cooper ran in another touchdown and Spinn threw another TD pass later in the first to give Holland a 29-0 lead at the close of the opening quarter.

Milano scored their two points in the second when Hector Muniz blocked a PAT attempt and ran it back to the MHS endzone.

Holland led 49-2 at halftime and won 69-2.

It was noted by attendees that the Hornets were still attempting onside kicks when they were up 62-2 late in the game and did not pull their starters until the beginning of the fourth quarter.

This was the final high school football game for Danny Cloud, Jeremyah Tafao, Brett Czajkowski, Tristan Massey, Major Bui and Alec Hernandez.

No statistics were kept for the competition.

SEASON–Going into the year with many of their top players graduating, the Eagles struggled early on against tough competition losing to Grapeland, Burton and Bremond in their first three games.

Although the three schools were all ranked by Texas Football, Milano struggled facing an equally tough District 13-2A-I schedule that had Hearne and Thorndale, who both made it at least two rounds deep in the Class 2A playoffs last season.

Milano’s only victory came last week when they took down Rosebud-Lott 6-0 thanks to a 57-yard pass from Noah Benavides to Marquise Jones in the third quarter.

Both players, with junior wide receiver Drew Demeritt and sophomore quarterback Ethen Knight, are all expected to be back with the Milano Eagles next season.
