WACO—This past Friday, the Milano Eagle football team started their season on a high note, with Josh Millar scoring three touchdowns and Andres Ruelas punching in two of his own, propelling MHS to a 41-7 victory over Reicher Catholic.

The Eagles got hot early, with Millar scoring his first touchdown of the season on a kickoff return and Ruelas scoring later in the opening quarter on a six-yard run. This put Milano up 13-0 at the close of the first.

In the second, Millar got a rushing touchdown of his own with a 12-yard run to increase their lead to 19-0 as the two teams went into halftime.

During the second half, Millar scored again on a breakaway 46-yard run. Reicher answered back on a 34-yard TD pass to cut the Eagle advantage to 25-7, but this was as close as the Cougars would get as Millar and Ruelas each scored another touchdown in the fourth to give the team a 41-7 win.

Millar and Ruelas together racked up 375 of the team’s 421 yards. Chris Vasquez led the team with 12 tackles while Gael Alcala and Mykal Hutson each had an interception.

THIS WEEK— O n Thursday, the Eagles make their home debut against Huntsville’s Alpha Omega Academy, a TAPPS Division IV school.

The Lions opened their season last week with a 44-22 win over New Braunfels Christian Academy and like the Eagles, they run the ball most of the time.

Senior running back Seth Burkhalter led the team against NBCA with 154 yards on 15 carries and four touchdowns. Teammates Luke Collier, Trey Mayton and Bailey Hall combined for a total of 192 yards as well.

Kick-off between the two schools is at 7 p.m.
