The Milano Eagles finished third at the St. Joseph tournament, and leading scorer Christian Thurman was named to the all-tournament team after the Eagles’ 2-1 performance at the Bryan private school.
In their first game, the Eagles defeated Magnolia’s Legacy Prep Christian Academy 73-55. Thurman scored a season high 32 points, and Arthur Soto scored 16 in his first game back after a knee injury forced him to miss the last three games. Hayden Weaver also scored seven points. They fell to Brazos Christian Academy 62-36. Weaver was the leading scorer with 14 points, and freshman Layne Telg had 10.
In their final game, Milano defeated St. Joseph 50-43 to place third. Thurman had nine points along with Mason Westbrook. Soto was also a key scorer with seven.
“We began to settle down and play as a team,” said Kyle Edwards, MHS boy’s head basketball coach. “We are beginning to trust each other on the court and it shows in all facets of the game.”
Milano also defeated St. Joseph 43-36 earlier in the week on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Thurman led the team with 22. Telg, Weaver, and Bryson Richards each had five points. Cordell Spears was also a factor in Milano’s victory with 14 rebounds and four blocked shots.
