For the first time this season, the Milano Eagles got to experience the glory of a victory when they took down Rosebud-Lott 6-0 at Pruitt Stadium on Friday.
MHS went up against a Rosebud team that was also winless going into the game.
The first two quarters were scoreless and the two teams went into halftime tied at zero. That all changed in the third quarter when junior receiver Marquise ones caught a cross-field pass from Noah Eena0 vides over Rosebud-Lott’s safety Collin Childre and took down the left sideline for a 59-yard touchdown at the 7:30 mark.
Milano held on to this 6-0 lead for the remainder of the game.
I n addition to not allowing any points, the Eagle defense held the Cougars to 21 yards on the evening. MHS outgained RLHS 163-72.
Benavides lead the Eagles in rushing with 46 yards on 10 carries and also completed two-of-four passes for 64 yards and one touchdown. He also had a sack and an interception.
Ethen Knight also played Q B and was three-of0five with 5: yards. ones was the top receiver with 80 yards on three catches.
On defense, Milano had a total of 13 tackles-for-loss led by senior Alec Hernandez who had 10 tackles. J ones was also a top defender for Milano with nine tackles.
The game did have it’s fair share of penalties. Rosebud-Lott had 11 penalties for a total of 138 yards. Milano had 20 for a total of 190 yards.
The Eagles have had a tough season due to the graduation of playmakers Devonte J ones and Christian Thurman and quarterback Kathen Funberg.
Many of Milano’s primary players are new to their roles.
Noah Benavides and Ethen Knight, who have both taken snaps for the maroon-and-gold, are both first year varsity quarterbacks. Running back Danny Cloud has spent his high school career as a linemen. Marquise J ones and Drew Demeritt are both junior receivers who were handed a bigger role this season as well taking Thurman and J ones’s spots.
HOLLAND– This Friday, the 1-8 Eagles play their final jame of the 531 season when they travel to Holland to take on Tex as F ootb all M ag az i n e’ s seventh-ranked team in Class 2A-1.
The Hornets are undefeated in on the season have only had one district opponent come within 20 points of them this season.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
