A young team with only half of their starters back from the 2018 playoff team, the Eagles have been trying to figure things out.

Noah Benavides was the starter at the beginning of the season, but now sophomore Ethen Knight takes most of the snaps.

They’ve also inherited a very tough non-district schedule. In their first three games against Grapeland, Burton and Bremond, Milano faced three teams that were ranked by Texas Football.

After two more losses to Iola (14-3) and to Thrall (38-0) in their district opener, the Eagles got the opportunity to rest and recooperate with their bye week.

HEARNE–Now the Eagles prepare for a game in Hearne on Friday night.

Led by quarterback Micah Smith, who had more than 2,000 total offensive yards in 2018 and 28 passing TD’s, Hearne is also strong on defense with defensive end Quinston Owens who had 12 sacks last season and linebacker Alijah Miles, who had 64 tackles and five sacks.

The other Eagles have had partial success with a tough schedule with a 3-3- record with wins over Class 3A Lexington and Groesbeck and a 48-25 victory over Thrall last Friday.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
