MILANO—The Eagles put on quite the show during the school’s annual homecoming game, taking down district opponent Iola, 41-6.

Josh Millar helped get his team off to a hot start w ith a 14-yard touchdown run, marking the 15th time he’s scored this fall.

MHS concluded the opening quarter on a high note when Chris Vasquez connected with Mykal Hutson on a short pass that turned into a 64-yard touchdown as time expired. Due to a missed extra point, Milano led 13-0 at the close of the first.

The second quarter was when the Eagles ran away with the game. First, Ethan Gordon scored on a 50-yard run. Later, Millar made a return to the end zone on a 66-yard run. This put MHS in an ideal situation, going into the locker room at halftime, leading 27-0.

Not much changed in the second half. Sophomore Andres Ruelas got the party up and going again when he scored on a 15-yard run in the third. Millar made his third trip across the goal line in the fourth on a one-yard push, changing the score to 41-0. Although Iola picked up a touchdown later in the fourth, it wasn’t enough as the Eagles picked up their second district win.

Milano has yet to lose a game this entire season and has a record of 6-0. The team also has wins over Waco’s Reicher Catholic School, Temple’s Central Texas Christian School, Meridian, Cypress Christian and Bartlett.

STATS— Millar led the team in rushing with 157 yards on 14 carries. The MHS senior now has a total of 944 yards in six games. Gordon also rushed for more than 110 yards during their outing against Iola, with 124 on 13 carries.

Vasquez had one completion on three attempts, picking up 64 yards and one touchdown. The MHS quarterback also led the team on the other side of the ball with junior Edison Bui. The two recorded 11 tackles each. Gordon also had a big night on defense, getting 10 tackles, while Millar picked up six of his own.

THIS WEEK— The Eagles head to Bremond for their third district contest. In Falls County, they will likely have their biggest challenge of the season so far.

Even though BHS hasn’t been able to scrap together a victory in their first two district contests, they have fought hard fights against two opponents known to be tough. The Tigers lost 41-30 in their district opener to Chilton, Texas Football Magazine’s fifthranked team in Class 2A-II. This past Friday, they went head-to-head with Granger, the ninth-ranked team in their classification. After holding a lead for a big part of the night, the Lions staged a comeback and the game came down to the final play when Granger’s Isaac Lizardo intercepted a Bremond pass with four seconds left in the game.

Game time in Bremond is scheduled for 7 p.m.
