Milano vs. Burton at Hornet Field (Caldwell) Kick-off: 7 p.m.
Tickets available at the gate Although Milano’s season finale with fifthranked Chilton ended in favor of the Pirates 28-7, beating Iola and Bartlett earlier in district play was enough to earn the Eagles their first trip to the post-season since 2018.
Beginning playoff action this Friday in Caldwell, the Eagles have the tough task of taking on District 14-2A-II champion Burton. In the most recent poll conducted by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine, the Panthers are ranked second in Class 2A-II, and have been ranked for much of the 2022 season.
Last season, Burton was a state title front-runner and was well on the way to a district crown until the UIL ruled that the Panthers had to forfeit all but two of their district games due to using an ineligible player. Although Burton made the post-season as the fourth place team, they would miss out on a chance at a state title when Falls City beat them in the state quarterfinals.
BHS now shares a district with the Beavers, who they beat 13-12 in their 14-2A-II opener on Friday, Sept. 23. After getting revenge, the Panthers took down the rest of their district opponents by a combined total of 258-47.
Burton has also done all of this while playing every game on the road this season, due to their stadium undergoing renovations.
BHS is a very experienced team with eight starters returning on both sides of the ball. The Panthers are a team that primarily runs the ball with Tyron Gilbert, Pierson Spies and Delvin Gantt.
Game time between the two schools is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Caldwell High School’s Hornet Field.
Admission for adults is $5 and $3 for students. Senior Citizen passes, District passes and coaching passes will be accepted.
GAME— Neither team scored until the second quarter, but Chilton was able to get ahead 14-0. MHS sophomore Andres Ruelas scored on an eight-yard run later in the quarter, but that was as close as the Eagles got as CHS scored twice more in the second half to win, 28-7.
Ethan Gordon led the team in rushing with 132 yards on 26 carries while Ruelas picked up 78 yards on 21 carries.
Gordon was also the team’s top defensive player with six tackles while Chris Vasquez and Edison Bui each had four. The team wa s w it hout leading rusher Josh Millar, who was injured during a game in Bremond on Friday, Oct. 21.
