Milano moves to 3-0 on the season

The 3-0 Milano Eagles had a significant victory at home against the Meridian Yellowjackets. The final score was Milano 21, Meridian 6.

Junior running back Andres Ruelas scored in the first quarter on a 19-yard run and then kicked the extra point to take the lead, 7-0.

Eagle Ruelas continued to do his thing in the second quarter by running into the end zone for his second score of the night. The extra point was good and it was Milano 14, Meridian 0.

Meridian then made one of their two field goals, kicking the ball from 24 yards out making the score 14-3.

Eagles junior tight end Gerald Dykes then pushed his way into the end zone, going 37 yards for a touchdown. Eagles kicker Ruelas again was good for the extra point making the score Eagles 21, Yellowjackets 3.

The Yellowjackets kicked their second field goal in the second quarter making the final score Milano 21, Meridian 6.

Head Football Coach Nick Moorehead is pleased with his team but still looking for improvement, “The defense played well, they had three interceptions and they held Meridian to six points.”

STANDOUTS— Standouts for the game were junior running back Ruelas who had over 100 yards and two touchdowns, junior defensive lineman Gabe Sanders, junior tight end Gerald Dykes, junior offensive lineman William Mears and defensive lineman Dylan Magee. Freshman defensive back Jesus Reyes, senior defensive back Jason Avalos and junior defensive lineman Avery Pizana all had interceptions.

COMING UP— This Friday the undefeated Eagles will be tested as they hit the road and play a non-league game against Cypress Christian in Cypress. The Cypress Christian Warriors are twotime state champions in the Texas private school division. The Warriors are coming into this game 2-2. Kick off for this game is 7 p.m.
